The dashboard editor

The dashboard editor is the tool you use to compose a custom view of your asset data, using a drag&drop grid layout.

Goals for this page

  • List the available widget types (charts, live values, maps, etc.) and when to use them.
  • Explain how to add, resize and rearrange widgets in the grid.
  • Explain role-based visibility options (which roles can see a dashboard).
  • Explain view-only mode vs edit mode (edit mode is reserved for admins on template dashboards).

Getting started

  1. Open the editor from Settings → Asset Templates → [template] → Dashboard, or from the Dashboard tab on an asset's detail page (see Creating dashboards and rules from the asset's detail page).
  2. Add a widget from the widget panel.
  3. Link the widget to one or more template variables.
  4. Save: the dashboard is immediately available for all assets of the template (if created as a template dashboard) or only for you (if personal).

TODO: document the full list of widget types and their configuration options, with screenshots.
