Creating assets from a template

Where to create it​

Go to the Asset page: here you'll find the list of all assets in your Space, with filters by template, organization and group.

Steps​

  1. Click New asset.
  2. Choose the template to create the asset from: this determines which variables, integration, alarm rules and dashboards it will have.
  3. Fill in the required metadata (e.g. name, location, notes).
  4. If you already know it, enter the External ID of the physical device you want to connect — you can also do this later (see Connecting a physical device).
  5. Assign the asset to an organization and, optionally, one or more groups.
  6. Save.

After creation, the asset appears in the list and clicking it opens its detail page.

Organizing assets​

  • Organizations typically represent your end customers or sites.
  • Groups allow finer-grained segmentation (e.g. by area, product line) and can be used to assign visibility permissions to specific users.

From the Asset page you can filter, bulk-move assets between groups/organizations, and manage the users associated with a group.
